Desk Crits
Did not produce any formal written desk crits. However, more time was spent than in past
helping others with their design, critiquing and offering technical advice. Examples:
- Dicussed at length with Peg Daigle about the technical challenges and
pros and cons of implementing her project in powerpoint vs. flash.
- Discussed with JP Murrell early on in his project choice technical approaches
(databases, spreadsheets, etc.) he could take in developing his fantasy football project.
- Reviewed Erin Adair's Instructional Services Portal for the COE and gave suggestions
for improving her site. For example, enumerating the step instructions besides the diagram
rather than flowing in with the text and changing "Reality Check" to "Have another Question?"
- Reviewed Hi-Fi Design's project with Li Zhu, suggesting need to accommodate the
hearing impaired by adding captioning to the audio streams as well as giving visual
feedback (i.e. red "X" or green circle) around the items when clicked rather than just a
gong sound since I couldn't hear either.
- Helped Jin Ling proof her paper and correct grammar as well as
discussing writing in active voice vs. passive voice.
- These are just standout examples from throughout the semester, mainly because I
either knew the person or the discussions were lengthly, but I did feel that
overall I provided numerous constructive feedback to classmates, and certainly
more so than when I was in EDIT 6190 last Fall. I attribute this to the mandatory
meetings that occurred during the first half of the semester.
