The Modeler
A Modeler’s job is to mold or shape a material, be it clay or facts or procedures,
into a recognizable, useful form. That is what ID models do for the steps
involved in the systematic design of instruction. We must understand these
models, their similarities and differences before we can choose the one that will
work best for us.
Phase 1:
Your job is to critically look at several different models of instructional design.
Begin your survey by looking at the following websites:
Added Matrix from earlier email.
Need to adjust next paragraph accordingly.
Do we let them pick the five models or shall we pick 5 and give them a link to
each model?
If they choose ADDIE as one of 5, how does that change Phase 2 questions?
I think it would be useful if we picked the models so that they represent the different orientations.
I will adjust the page accordingly.
Look at the following 5 major instructional design models and fill in the following table.
You might find some helpful information at:

Model #1: Dick & Carey |
Model #2: Gerlach & Ely |
Model #3: Rapid Prototyping |
Model #4: Hannafin & Peck |
Model #5: Knirk & Gustafson |

Take a look at your table. Look at the differences and similarities
between the models. What steps or stages do they have in common? Do they have the
same focus on the learner? Are they flexible for application in different arenas?
Now, with this in mind, for these 5 models, create a table showing their
advantages, shortcomings and uses.
Phase 2:
Now that you are the resident expert on instructional design models,
it is time to take a look at the design philosophy your team will present
to the Board. Look at the following web site:
See comment questions above...perhaps ADDIE should be model #1 or #5 and we ask them
to reflect further on ADDIE, maybe by asking them a simple question..."Why would ADDIE
be a good model for Creative Deisgns to Adopt?"
Compare and contrast the ADDIE model with the 5 models from Phase 1.
Why would ADDIE be a good model for Creative Deisgns to Adopt?
Defend your statements.
