Turning the Page (TTP) (http://www.turningthepage.org), a Washington, DC non-profit fostering a life-long love of learning in public school children, seeks Research and Design Director. Turning the Page administers a U.S. Department of Education funded Parental Information and Resource Center and implements numerous school-based initiatives through its three primary programs: School Community Leadership Groups, Community Nights and Community Connections. Leadership Groups consist of parents, teachers and other community volunteers and provide a mechanism for these stakeholders to collaborate on ensuring parents and additional community resources positively impact student achievement. Community Nights provide parents with specific tools and resources to become effective educators of their children. Community Connections provide opportunities for schools and families to take advantage of the many educational resources and social services offered in D.C. communities.

Research and Design Director will carry out the following tasks:

  1. Monitor TTP’s current initiatives to ensure that the high standard TTP has set for each initiative is being met. Research & Design Director will work closely with TTP’s independent evaluation team and should possess a general understanding of research frameworks.
  2. Recommend and design high quality enhancements to existing TTP initiatives.
  3. Promote public school change and innovation through design of new standards-based initiatives that enhance the collaborative role and impact of community-based organizations. Examples include new museum partnerships and programs, student-teacher internship programs and special education innovations.
  4. Report directly to TTP president and work with TTP president and Board of Directors to build first-rate research and design division within TTP.

Job description:

Philadelphia University seeks an instructional technologist to provide leadership in the infusion of technology into teaching and learning across our disciplines. Working closely with faculty, library staff, computing support, and the Learning and Advising Center, he/she will promote and develop strategies for the use of technology that will enhance classroom learning. With the title Manager, Learning Technologies Support Services, the successful candidate will have experience training and supporting faculty on course management software systems. In addition, approximately one-quarter time will be spent supervising the campus audio-visual/media technology support unit, and contributing to the maintenance of this unit's web site.

The successful candidate will have a Master's Degree in educational or instructional technology with specialization in instructional design or curriculum development, and should also have a demonstrated understanding of best teaching and learning practices rooted in sound knowledge of pedagogy.

A minimum of two year's experience providing technology support services to faculty at a higher education institution is required. Preferred skills include experience with course management software, PC and MAC platforms, web and graphic design software, and audio-visual technologies.
